Can you guess who created the first garment in recorded history?
He is known by many names, such as: Jehovah Jireh, El Shaddai, El Roi, and Abba to name a few - but you probably know Him by the acronym, YHWH.
There is no other brand name above His name.
You might recall the moment He created the first outfit of animal skins for Adam and Eve

“The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” – Genesis 3:21 (NIV)
After their disobedient behavior, they really didn’t deserve such mercy, yet we see the God of the universe take it upon Himself to dispatch an animal and create apparel for the newly “naked” human beings.
This is worth taking some time to meditate on.
What kindness and mercy are shown within the opening pages of the Bible! It confounds me as to why many of us have or continue to view God as some mean and cruel dictator in heaven.
Our good Father in Heaven longs to clothe all of us in new garments fitting of sons and daughters. His designs are always the best.
“I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels.” – Isaiah 61:10 (NLT)
As a sinner who has checked many “Thou shall not” boxes, including homosexuality, I am often overwhelmed with gratitude for our God and Father who affords us so much grace. In ministering to other people who are still in the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, I can only offer the same love, mercy and truth that was offered to me. The kindness of God that led me to repentance (Romans 2:4).
If you feel called to minister to a LGBTQ+ loved one this month or evangelize at a pride parade I want to encourage you to seek out the fashion advice of our God in heaven so that all will see and glorify the greatest designer who has ever lived. In hopes that they will one day see that His original designs, in all aspects, are always the best.
“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.” - Colossians 3:12-14 (MSG)
I invite you to listen in to this interview with author, Glenn Stanton on loving your LGBTQ+ neighbor.
